What is a Popover?
A PUFFY, MUFFIN-SIZED BREAD WITH A CRISP BROWN CRUST AND A SOMEWHAT HOLLOW, MOIST INTERIOR. THE HIGH PROPORTION OF LIQUID IN THE BATTER CREATES THE STEAM THAT LEAVENS THE BREAD. THE NAME IS SAID TO COME FROM THE FACT THAT AS THE BATTER BAKES AND EXPANDS IT "POPS OVER".
IN THE WORDS OF OUR GUEST:
IF YOU'VE NEVER EATEN A POPOVER YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU'RE MISSING!
"Popovers are like large cupcake-sized Yorkshire Pudding. They have an incomparable texture and taste. This cafe serves them with maple butter which melts on the warm Popovers. They are just extraordinary...."
